Permanent Collection
The Tropenmuseum houses about ten permanent collections which offer a many-sided picture of human life in the tropics and subtropics. There are a number of lifelike exhibits in which one can imagine oneself in a different world. A few examples include: walking through an Arab street to the sound of buyers, sellers and donkey-drivers, hearing the monotonous singing of the monks at a Buddhist temple, and finding one's way through shelters similar to those found in the cities of Bombay and Calcutta. Furthermore, objects reflecting the history and culture of the peoples in the tropics are on display in showcases.
