Museum Het Rembrandthuis / The Rembrandt House

AMSTERDAM

Museum Het Rembrandthuis [nl]

Permanent Collection:

The early 17th-century building used to be Rembrandt's house and studio between 1639 and 1658. In the courtyard he probably painted his famous 'Nightwatch'. The house, the studio and Rembrandt's art chamber are restored as far as possible to its original 17th-century condition, including furniture and art objects from Rembrandt's day. The museum has recently been extended with a new wing, which houses a unique collection of almost all of Rembrandt's prints. He depicted a varied range of subjects such as landscapes, patriarchs, emaciated beggars, children at play and numerous self-portraits. A varied programme of temporary exhibitions, most of them closely related to Rembrandt, also takes place in the modern part of the museum. A collection of paintings of Pre-Rembrandtists, Rembrandt-pupils and Pieter Lastman, Rembrandt's main teacher is on show in Rembrandt's house.
