Permanent Collection
The museum's collection comprises fine art and applied art from the 13th to the 19th century, as well as modern and contemporary art. The fine art collection emphasises on Dutch art and includes Late Medieval painting (Van Cleve, Cranach and Holbein), 16th and 17th-century artists (Brueghel the Younger, Van Goyen, Ruisdael, Avercamp, Van Beyeren and Van Kessel), Romantics (with Koekkoek, Schelfhout and Leickert), the Barbizon School (with Daubigny and Troyon), the Hague and Amsterdam Schools (with the Maris brothers, Mauve, Israels and Breitner) and Impressionism (Monet, Sisley and Jongkind).
The collection also includes manuscripts and incunabula, sculptures, Delft earthenware, furniture, tapestries, glassware and silver. A collection devoted to Dutch art and applied arts of the 18th century, with works by De Wit and Troost, forms a separate component within this collection.
The collection of modern and contemporary art includes works by CoBrA members (Appel, Brands, Constant, Corneille, Lucebert, Rooskens and Wolvecamp) and by experimental artists (Oubourg, Hussem, Sinemus and Nanninga), systematic, serial and fundamental art from the 60s and 70s, and works by contemporary artists like Akkerman, Andre, Charlton, Colton, Cragg, Van Elk, Flanagan, Gilbert & George, Long, Muñoz, Pope, Struycken, Verhoef and Visser.

Tuesday - Sunday 11 am - 5 pm. Closed on Monday (except public holidays), 1 January and 25 December.

How to get there?

It's a 10 minute walk from Enschede's trainstation or by bus 60 (Oldenzaal) or 61 (Overdinkel); both stop at De Vluchte. By car: follow the signs 'Rijksmuseum'.
